Essay Contest Winners

The Department of Computer Science & Information Technology at Hood College is proud to announce the winners of this year's Grace Hopper Annual Essay Competition. The purpose of the competition was to engage students in learning more about the life and achievements of Grace Hopper andto encourage interest in computr science.

The competition was open to all high school and junior high school students. Winners came from Walkersville HIgh School, MD; Urbana HIgh School MD; and Deep Run High School, Glen Allen, Virginia.

There were 16 submissions and the essays by the following students received top awards.

Ryan Puthumana - Walkersville High, Maryland
 
Honorable Mention
Jocelyn Marencik - Deep Run High School, Glen Allen, VA
 
Winners received a certificate of recognition along with technology gifts.  Students from grades 9-12 were invited to participate in the Grace Hopper Essay Contest sponsored by the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology during Grace Hopper Week in December, 2017.  They could submit written or video essays. Prizes included  mini drones (Parrot Mini Jumping Sumo), fitness activity trackers (Bluetooth Water-Resistant Activity Tracker) and space pens (write in all angles and extreme temperatures).
