Robotic boat helps witn Frederick reservoir mapping

Frederick, November 23, Hood graduate students and faculty assisted the city of Frederick in mapping the depth of the reservoir to determine if it has silted up an become shallower. The team used a small fiberglass hobby boat about 4 feet long, with an added depth sensor, compass, and GPS tracker. The boat tracked from point to point across the reservoir to create a grid of over 10, 000 measurements. The project team included CS graduate student Peter O'Connor (pictured), Hood graduate Stephan Auderset, Hood Geographic Information Systems Specialist Randy Smith, and professor George Dimitoglou.
