Subject: [HoodACM] Last Call for students interested in the Virtual Robotics
 Competion Team

Dear students,
We have just been notified that our proposal for participation to the
IEEE Robotics and Automation Society's New Initiatives Competition:
'Advancing Robotic Research through an Open Source High-Fidelity
Simulation Framework and Competition' has been accepted.

We will have 1-2 students accompany us to a two day workshop/tutorial in 
October at NIST.
These students will then become the core group to build our robotic team 
to participate in
Robotics Simulation League competitions and eventually to a robotic
factory automation regional competition.

We are looking for students that are interested, motivated and
enthusiastic in working in a team to participate in virtual robot
competitions using USARSim (a high fidelity robot simulator). In
competitions, a team of simulated robots has to explore, map and clear a
block-sized disaster area, featuring both carefully modeled indoor and
outdoor environments. Robots and sensors used in the competition closely
mirror platform and devices currently used in physical robots. Currently
addressed research topics include, but are not limited to, human-robot
interfaces, sliding autonomy, sensor fusion, map building, and
distributed planning and learning.

Interested students should satisfy the following requirements**:

Undergraduate Students:
- Completed or currently enrolled in CS 419
- Not planning to graduate before May 2009

Graduate Students:
- Completed or currently enrolled in CS 519
- Not planning to graduate before May 2009

Subject: [HoodACM] Hood ACM - Tomorrow (Thursday) at 5pm

ACM-ers,
Hope everyone has settled-in the semester and their courses by now.

We will have an ACM get-together tomorrow Thursday, 5pm  at the suite 
(2nd floor Hodson)

Last year we ended the year on a high note, our field trip to the NSA. 
Come tomorrow so  we can plan our activities for this year.

Tell your friends, everyone welcome, refreshments will be served.
