Although there have been declines in technology employment in the nation, prospects in the Washington, DC, region remain strong.
An article in the Washington Post noted that the Washington area is second-best in the nation for tech job opportunities, according to the Dice Report, a tech jobs clearinghouse. Job postings in the Washington region are up 60 percent this year.
The Job Outlook 2005 report of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) cites computer-related degrees, along with business and engineering, as one of the three general fields with the most promising job outlooks. The report states:
"Among employers responding to NACE’s Job Outlook 2005 survey, accounting, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, business administration, economics/finance, and computer science top the list of majors they plan to hire at the bachelor’s degree level.
At the master’s degree level, responding employers are most interested in business, engineering, and computer-related degrees. At the doctoral level, engineering and computer-related degrees are of most interest to respondents."
According to NACE, starting offers for graduates with a master’s degree in computer science averaged $62,806 in 2003.
